Happy Summer, Women in Dataviz!
☀️It’s hot, and there’s data (visualization) to prove it! Phoeniz, Arizona, is coming up on its 20th consecutive day of temperatures of 110 degrees F or greater! It’s feeling utterly mild here in Tampa at a mere 86 degrees this morning. (It may get as warm as 93 later in the day.) The extreme heat is affecting cities around the globe—Bloomberg reported that Catalonia, one of my favorite destinations on the planet, reached 45.1C yesterday (if my calculations this website is correct, that’s about 113F.)
📩 You may have noticed we changed email platforms. Substack offers almost as much as Beehiiv, but for free, so here we are. In case you’re the nostalgic type, be comforted—Substack automagically imported our previous newsletters from Beehiiv.
👩🏼🎓 Change seems to be the theme of my life this season—I quit my full-time gig to focus on my freelance work, and I returned to grad school. (I wanted a more real-world-oriented program than when I was a grad student a few years back, so this time I enrolled in the University of Colorado Boulder Master of Science in Data Science. It’s about 60% programming! I’m taking a course on data mining pipelines this session, and it’s fun to be a student again.)
